North Sichuan Medical College (NSMC) is a provincial undergraduate college of medicine in Sichuan province, located in the second largest higher education center of Sichuan province—— Nanchong, a famous city, the origin of the Three Kingdoms culture. Its two campuses occupy an area of over 1,300 mu.
An active college with great achievements and national enrollment, it enrolls nearly 9,000 students in undergraduate , three-year programs and postgraduate. The college adheres to the guiding principles of student-centered teaching, quality-emphasis, and a high level of scholarship, and it has developed a motto, Commitment, Fraternity, Honesty, and Creativity. It has developed into an important provincial center of higher medical education, research, disease prevention, and rheumatism treatment since its establishment in 1951.
Faculty:
Over 260 members of the faculty hold Master’s or Doctorate degrees. Among them, more than 300 have obtained the academic title of Associate Professor, and Professor. In addition, there are 40 returned scholars and experts. Over 20 of them enjoy special government subsidies or have been given positions of national leadership in their field. Some of them have been named to the National Rheumatism Research Committee; some are members of the National Forensics Major Committee; others have been appointed to memberships, and even a vice-directorship of the Medical Major Committee.
The college now has 3 national scientific research labs, 3 provincial key subjects, 1 key lab, 1 top quality course and 13 key courses on the provincial level. Its library owns over 500,000 books and has subscribed to more than 1,567 Chinese and foreign periodicals in addition to over 17,000 electronic periodicals both in Chinese and foreign languages. The college has the first-class clinical training center, an advanced multi-media courseware making system, a 1000m campus network of leading technology and all AI equipped teaching buildings occupying 45,000m2. The total value of the college’s equipment for teaching and scientific research has amounted to 200 million yuan (RMB). It includes a 1.5 T MRI produced by the GE company USA, SPECT and Toshiba 16-row screw CT.
Achievements :
In recent years, the college has undertaken 8 national research projects, 6 projects taken over from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health and State Chinese Medicine Administration, and 238 provincial key and scientific research projects, and won 52 prizes, including 28 provincial prizes topping all the colleges in Sichuan province in 2003; in 2004, first, second, and third prize in total 7 prizes, one of which was recommended for a national prize. It has published 1674 scientific research papers, 58 treatises and 54 papers have been embodied by SCI and ET. These years, the graduates with a solid foundation, good practical skill, high comprehensive qualities and fine plasticity are well accepted by employers and society. The rate of employment remains above 95%.
Leading the colleges in Sichuan province .The job directions mainly are hospitals ,colleges, scientific research units, government units, medicine companies and the like; job locations include Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Chongqing, Chengdu as well as some other big and medium cities. In March 2005, the college was again awarded Advanced Group of Work on Graduates’ Employment.
Recently, the staff is of one heart and pooling wisdom and efforts to make our college a first-class medical college, developing medical courses which make a harmonious impact on Sichuan provinc .
